Vocabulary of a Fangirl - Part 1

When I first joined Pinterest I was very confused by all the strange words and phrases people were using.  I had to learn it all on my own and it took forever. In this series of "Vocabulary of a Fangirl" I will go over all you need to know in order to be accepted in the world of Fandoms, OTPs, and more. Haha, I'm just kidding - we love newbies! (though, it is true...)

Part 1 - The Basics

Fandom - A group of individuals who all obsess over (or extremely like) a certain book, movie, or TV show. For ex. The Sherlock Fandom (AKA the Sherlockians) are flipping out now that we have an official air date for season three and the Whovians (Doctor Who Fans) are counting the days for the 50th Anniversary Special!

Fangirl - Most of the people in the fandoms consist of girls (who else can obsess over things as hard as we do?), therefore we have an official name: Fangirls.

Fangirling - When shortness of breath, fainting, high-pitched noises, fierce head shaking, hyperventilation, jumping up and down, giggling hysterically/sobbing, etc. occur as a reaction to the sight of an object of magnitude concerning your fandom(s).

Cosplay - The act of dressing like a character from one of your fandoms.

Fanfiction - Pretty much just how it sounds. It's when fans write amazing fictional stories with characters from one or more fandoms.

Fan Art - When a fan creates a piece of art containing fandom references and characters.

Next time we'll look at "The Next Stage - Expand your Fangirl Vocabulary".

Music Challenge - Day 30 + NaNo

Truthfully, I am glad that this long journey is over. I had fun, yes, but it is tiring to have to post a certain thing each day. Also, it took away time I could have been using for writing book reviews.

This is me being sad that I didn't get as many book reviews posted as I wanted.

My favorite song at this time last year.

Okay, let me think...what music did I listen to a year ago. Well, seeing as it's almost November I was most likely already jamming to Christmas music.

I listened to this Toby Mac song a lot last year, and don't the legos make it extra awesome?

~

Now that this 30 day challenge is over I can focus on other things - like NaNoWriMo!  For those of you who don't know, NoNoWriMo is an online program that has you take the month of November to reach your word count goal on one of your WIPs. (Work In Progress). I knew about it last year, but wasn't anywhere close to participating. Well, not anymore! I have my current WIP characters profiled and a pretty solid outline set and ready to go! So, starting tomorrow I have pledged to write over 2000 words a day in order to reach my goal of 65,000 words. Ugh, just typing that right now made me nervous!

If any of you are doing NaNo, and want to be writing buddies, my username is EmberOwl. Also, if you have any tips for me on how to 'survive' NaNo it would be very appreciated!

Music Challenge - Day 29

I'm gonna starts out with this: There's only one day left in the music challenge! (Excuse me while I sing all the parts to "One Day More")

Lot's of gif action for you.

~

A song from my childhood.

When I think "childhood" I think of me being 5-12 years old. I don't know why that is, but it's what pops into my head.

Obviously, my taste in music didn't stay the same from age five to age twelve. So now comes the picky part. What to choose, what to choose...

It's about time I shared a Veggie Tales song. I watched it a lot during my "childhood"...and still do.

Don't judge!  ;)

Music Challenge - Day 28

A song that makes me feel guilty.

Chris Tomlin - I Will Follow

Why this song makes me feel guilty:

When I hear this song I am reminded of how unfaithful I am to God. Most of my time is spent on ME and what I want and what makes ME happy.

I am also reminded to be patient. "Where You go, I go" - not before and not after. I need to be content where He has me, but also attentive to what He is telling me to do. Wait and listen.

There are only two more days left in this music challenge! Where have the days gone?

Music Challenge - Day 27

A song that I wish I could play (on an instrument).

Warning: don't ever decide to have me play an instrument within hearing range.

But, if I could play an instrument I would probably pick the violin. And then, if I could actually play it I'd want to be able to play this:

I'm pretty sure it's Mozart's Boccherini, but I first heard it on Master and Commander (awesome movie).

Music Challenge - Days 25 & 26

Today's music challenge is...

A song that makes me laugh!

If you haven't seen any of Julian Smith's videos, then you're missing out.

Tomorrows challenge is...

A song that I can play on an instrument.
Notice there isn't an exclamation point.

I am not a musician. I had some piano lessons when I was little and some mandolin lessons from my dad, but I didn't stay doing either. I can pick out Mary Had a Little Lamb on just about any instrument and Deck the Halls on the piano. Oh, and this (as long as I have a partner):

Aren't those boys adorable? And this video totally works because I'm almost as good as good as them!

Music Challenge - Day 24

A song that I want to have played at my funeral.

Here's the thing.

I want my funeral to be a big party where everyone eats good food and remembers me as the weird, silly girl/woman who laughs too hard at every little joke. The music will be light and happy and encouraging.

Something like this:

Besides, minions can brighten anyone's day ;D

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Just because I'm lazy, here's the description from Goodreads:

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every thirty days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind...

 ~

Okay.

This book was AWESOME. The plot, the characters, the writing style - all amazing.

Seriously though, this book deserves a fandom.

The Maze Runner is an action packed book that will leave you yearning to read the sequel. There wasn't a moment reading it that I was bored or skipped ahead. Every page kept me sucked in.There were some parts that were dark and depressing, but for a story like this it's necessary. I enjoyed the fact that is is written in a boy's perspective and that most of the characters are boys (with one exception to the girl that shows up after Thomas). The plot is unlike any story I've read, which is most likely a reason why it's so interesting. A lot of books today are unoriginal and dull. The Maze Runner is in no means anywhere close to unoriginal or dull.

I recommend this book to those seeking a late-nighter and who want to be sucked in completely by a tale of suspense and adventure.

5 Stars

AND it's being made into a movie!

Thomas

No official trailer yet, but it doesn't come out until sometime next year.

Music Challenge - Day 23

A song I want to play at my wedding.

This one's pretty easy.

Unfortunately, the song I want at my wedding has been played at Bella and Edward's...

Why oh why couldn't this song be for a more deserving couple??? I mean, seriously! Amy and Rory ACTUALLY waited a thousand years for each other! *sigh*

Music Challenge - Days 21 & 22

Day 21
A song that I listen to when I'm happy.

Isn't that gif awesome? Gotta love Jeremy Renner ;)

Hakuna Matata...what a wonderful phrase!

Day 22
A song I listen to when I'm sad.

This makes me sad.

This song is perfect for when I'm feeling sad. I just wish they had an actual music video for it...

Music Challenge - Day 20

A song that I listen to when I'm angry.

I usually don't listen to music when I'm mad. I'm more likely to be like this:

And then come the tears...

Okay, that gif is about to make me cry.

So, a song for when I'm angry. Well it would have to be something that I could blast through my headphones.

Did you catch my pun? Headphones...hahaha. Get it? Headphones?... never mind.

Music Challenge - Days 17, 18, &19

I'm starting to see how bad I am on keeping up with this challenge...

Day 17 (yesterday) - A song that I hear often on the radio.

I don't listen to the radio very often, but I do listen to Pandora, which is like a radio, right?

This song comes up a lot. I'm not complaining though, I really like this song.

Day 18 (today) - A song that I wish I heard on the radio.

I love singing this song, but it NEVER comes up on ANY of my stations.

Day 19 (tomorrow) - A song from my favorite album.

Sorry to disappoint...again, but I don't have a favorite album. I have many.

Adele's album 21 is one of them.

Music Challenge - Days 15 & 16

Yesterday my internet was acting wonky. Please excuse my tardiness.

Wonky. Wonky wonky wonky. Woooooonnnky. Haha. Wonky is fun to say. Wonky.

WONKY.

Okay then.

Back to business...

Anyways!

Day 15 - A song that describes me.

I don't think I've even found a song that describes half of me. Annoying, I know.

Is it just me, or is this music challenge...challenging?...

*forty-five minutes later...

This song describes me right now, getting all frustrated with this little music challenge.

I'm serious. I spent almost 45 minutes trying to think of a describing song and just as I was going to slam the computer shut in irritation...this song came to mind. *sigh*

Day 16 - A song that I used to love, but now hate.

As I have said, I don't hate any song I've ever listened to. Hate is too strong a word.

There are songs that I've listened to SO MUCH that they got extremely annoying. Let's go with one of those.

Last year, Adventures in Odyssey had a "Get in the Show!" contest that I really wanted to win. I got super worked up, practiced my lines CONSTANTLY, and listened to this song at least 15 times a day. It's a great song, sure. I just find it pretty annoying (and taunting). No, I didn't "get in the show". At the time I was devastated, but looking back I'm glad to have had that experience.

Music Challenge - Day 14

A song that no one would expect you to love.

Is it just me, or is this question pretty much like yesterday's?

Well, if you've been seeing the songs I've been putting up, then you probably have a pretty good idea of my taste in music. I like something with a good beat to jam to or a melody I can sing to. However,  recently (as of a week ago) I have been listening to older music. Here's one of my favorites:

It's so fun and bouncy and has a charming quality that most music today doesn't have. What do you think? Have you heard this song before? Are there any songs like it that you would recommend?

Music Challenge - Day 13

A song that is a guilty pleasure.

Ummm....

This can be taken many different ways, and honestly I don't know which way I should take it. A guilty pleasure...a song that pleases me, but makes me feel guilty when listening to it? I am not ashamed of any of the music I listen to...well, there is this one song from the Jonas Brothers that I like, but listening to it doesn't make me feel guilty ;)

Hopefully I'll have another book review up by tomorrow!

Gone for a Conference

Don't worry! It's just for the weekend ;)

Today I am going to complete two extra challenges, since I'll most likely be to busy to do them over the weekend.

Day 10 - A song that makes me fall asleep.

From the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Day 11 - A song from my favorite band.

I don't have one. I have many. Is that indecisive of me?

This is Barlow Girl, a band of three sisters joined together to praise the Lord with their music.

Day 12 - A song from a band I hate.

Hate is such a strong word. I don't hate any band, but there are ones I don't like as much as others.

So we're going to watch this viral video that makes me question what our world is coming to.

~

Until Monday!
See you later, alligators!

Music Challenge - Day 9

A song I can dance to.

Ha.

Umm...one that I can dance to, like with real dance steps, or one that I like dancing to?

Let's do both.

a) one I know steps to.

I danced to this song in a Swan Lake production a couple year ago.

b) one I like dancing to.

Music Challenge - Day 8

A song that I know all the words to.

This night be the hardest one yet - I know TONS of songs by heart.

But which should I choose?

Okay, I got it!

To quote my mom I "watched the Little Mermaid at least once a day since birth". No wonder I could sing this song backward and forward at five-years-old. I still remember the lyrics, and The Little Mermaid is still one of my favorite Disney movies :)

Off music topic: Have y'all seen the trailer for Disney's Frozen, coming to theaters this Thanksgiving?

What do you think? I'm pretty excited :D

Music Challenge catch-up

So sorry for my lateness! I was at a church campout and didn't have my precious wi-fi *sniff*. I did have a lot of fun though :D Stayed up late goofing off with friends, played kickball, ate junk food, rode bikes, and had a church talent show. And yes, I did participate. Two of my friends and I did a comedy skit with a veggie tale song in it. Not to brag, but we were awesome

Plus, since my character was a book nerd, I got to where some cool glasses.

How many days did I miss? Let's check...

I missed FOUR?!?

Okay, here we go:

Day 3 - A song that makes me happy.

I really really LOVE this song! The movie it's in is one of my favorites as well. (Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, which is based on the Guardians of Ga'Hoole books by Kathryn Lasky.)

Day 4 - A song that makes me sad.

Day 5 - A song that reminds me of someone.

Day 6 - A song that reminds me of somewhere.

Ummmm......Hmmmm.............

Somewhere...........

I got it!

Honestly, this song doesn't remind me of anywhere. It just fits.

And today's challenge...

Day 7 - A song that reminds me of a certain event.

I know, I know. Cheesy. But this song reminds me of when I moved away from my hometown after living there for eleven years. I remember driving away, my family and all our travel things packed in our gray Suburban, heading toward a place I didn't want to be. My eleven-year-old self couldn't take it. I was mad at everything and everyone, but mostly I was terrified and sorrowful. As we drove away that day, I had pulled out my iPod and closed off the world by digging my headphones as deep as they would go into my ears. With how loud I turned the volume, I'm surprised I didn't break my eardrums. This song pounded in my head as tears flooded my face and I replayed it over and over until I couldn't cry or feel any sort of emotions but tiredness. This song, however cheesy it may be, reminds me of a time where I lost everything I thought was dearest to me. Eventually I came to realize that my life wasn't over, I still had my family, and I would see my friends again someday...and no, this song doesn't bring any boy to mind, just friends that I grew up with and with whom I have shared earliest memories.

Music is so beautiful in that way, isn't it? We correspond events in our life to music that evokes the feelings we felt at the time. Even silly High School Musical songs ;)

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 2

Day two of the music challenge:

My least favorite song.

Well...I don't think I have one. But, here's one that makes me go like this when I hear it.

Does it count?  I think yes.

Not a Book Realated Post

This is my first non-book-related post EVER. *cue scary music*

Wait, does mentioning books make it book related? Hmmm...

Anyways, this is a MUSIC related post! *cue happy music*

I stole got this idea from Old Fashioned Girl's blog, which she acquired from Pinterest.

Day 1 - My favorite song.

I can't say I have just one, but here's a song I've been jamming to recently:

This, my blogglings, will be a fun 30 days :)
